Axle Surgeons® provides a challenge and that’s what drives us. The hours are long because you need to get your truck back to work fast. In the freezing cold, driving rain, or a hundred degree heat, we’re there. The welds are as difficult as any. If we're fortunate, we're working 20 inches off the ground. When we leave the job there can't be any doubts. That’s what makes it so rewarding for me. Getting you back on the road as quickly and safely as possible.

My name is Dickie Osborne. I was raised in a small community in Southwest Virginia. Where entertainment for children usually involved hunting, fishing, or riding motorcycles and go carts. I was fortunate enough to have a go-cart; however, the clutch shaft soon wore out! Fortunately, our neighbor was a heavy machinery mechanic who had a service truck. After building up the nerve to ask for his help, he repaired the shaft and polished it out with a flap wheel. It was a rough fix at best, but it worked just the same! Thus, my fascination with metal began!

How we got started

By the time I was 19,  I was MIG welding and soon began a driveshaft business. We repaired front CV axles and rebuilt both differentials and transfer cases for 4-wheel drive vehicles. Ultimately, we began to rebuild heavy truck transmissions, differentials, and drive shafts. Then, we took on Caterpillar® drivelines and built replacement shafts for all CAT models. This led to servicing drivelines for almost any machine. Business grew, and along with the natural gas boom in 2007, we could hardly repair gas well equipment fast enough.

One day, Greg Faulhaber of Axle Surgeons® in Kentucky, came by the shop for directions. He noticed we were making spindles for an obsolete International® housing and pointed out that I was doing a really good job. He gave me some pointers on installing the spindles. Then, he proceeded to tell me about his work with Axle Surgeons®. Soon after my encounter with Greg, Jim Ebert, owner of Axle Surgeons®, contacted me about the possibility of becoming an Axle Surgeon®. Although initially I declined his offer, the idea of exploring a new business became more appealing to me. It could not have happened at a more opportune time as both the coal and gas well business had begun to fade.
